Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé
One club and the same youth national teams, at different times. Rennes appears on both records: for Dembélé as the step before Barcelona, for Doué as the club he left for PSG. The France youth sides match too — under-17, youth and under-21, all three on both. Dembélé was born in 1997 in Vernon, Doué in 2005, so one walked this route eight years ahead of the other.
How they met
Through the same door into French football. Rennes produced both: Dembélé first, on his way to becoming a France forward, then Doué, who came up through the Stade Rennais FC B reserves. Both are French, both wingers by trade, and Doué's record carries his brother Gela Doué.
The core tension
An identical start sets up the obvious question: will the younger man carry the route further. Dembélé went from Rennes to Barcelona and the senior France side; Doué has so far matched the club step and all three youth teams, with the senior one still ahead. The same road, different distances covered.
